BEECHER

Brewster, NY 10509

Founded in 1947 by Lyman A. Beecher (a descendant of Harriet Beecher
Stowe) and his wife Daisy, Beecher Funeral Home began its journey
and service to the Brewster community. Lyman began his dream of providing
his community with the best possible funeral services to all faiths
by starting his business in a little house on North Main Street. Soon
with his success he moved into a larger home just next door. In 1957,
Beecher Funeral Home moved to the current location at 1 Putnam Avenue
in the beautiful facility erected 1911, the former Fowler residence.
In 1963, Lyman A. Beecher hired a young fellow, Richard T. Hazzard,
a 1961 graduate of Brewster High School and a 1963 graduate of Simmons
School of Embalming and Mortuary Science as an apprentice. Under the
guidance or Mr. Beecher, Richard (Dick) was taught the Beecher mission
of providing caring, understanding and compassion to the families
of Brewster. "Serving Your Family as Family" has been the
corner stone of Beecher Funeral Home.
Richard T. Hazzard in 1977 purchased the funeral home from the Beechers.
For 40 years Dick has continued the tradition at Beechers providing
the best personal service and facilities to families in need. Through
hard work and dedication, Dick has brought on board a well trained
caring professional staff who like him, are focused and provide the
families ofthe Brewster area the support and assistance in their time
of need. The staff at Beechers is not only there to help during your
immediate need but well after.
DWYER
FUNERAL HOME
23 South Street
Patterson, NY 12563
(845) 878-3161
Founded
in 1950 by J. Robert and Ruth W. Dwyer the Dwyer Funeral Home had
its beginning in the Town of Patterson. Mr. Dwyer was a school teacher
in the Carmel School System for over 30 years. Near the end of Mr.
Dwyer's career as an educator, he found it more difficult to leave
his responsibilities at school to meet the demands of the funeral
business. At this point he turned to Beecher Funeral Home for assistance.
Lyman Beecher and Dick Hazzard assisted and out of that working
relationship the men became good friends
and when Mr. Dwyer was ready he offered the sale of Dwyer Funeral
Home to Dick. Dick has brought to Dwyer Funeral Home the same dedication
and high standards he has at Beecher Funeral Home. Understanding
and caring for the families of Patterson is also a priority for
Dick. The Hazzards also have made Patterson their home since 1977.
