Obituary

Craig M. Ross, a lifelong resident of Brewster, NY died peacefully at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital on August 17, 2020 with his wife, family and friends by his side. He was 66 years old.
Born on May 12, 1954 in Mt. Kisco, NY son to the late John and Phyllis (Merritt) Ross. Craig was a graduate of Brewster High School. On August 28, 1976 Craig married the love of his life Barbette Pearson. They enjoyed 50 years together. Barbette and Craig loved to travel and explore the many wonders of the world but always called Brewster home.
Craig was a railroad conductor with Metro North Railroad for 36 years before retiring. He enjoyed playing the guitar and serenading Barbette, when he was 7 years old he played for the grand opening of Putnam Hospital Center. Craig was a wonderful, sincere, and kind person, loved by all who came in contact with him. He formed lasting bonds of friendship along the way. His family and friends will miss his calm demeaner and his sense of humor.
Craig is not only survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Barbette but also his sister Lorraine (Lori) Ross, 13 nieces and nephews and 6 great nieces and nephews and was looking forward to meeting the next grand nieces and nephews later this year. He was predeceased by his brother Todd Ross in 2006.

Craig was such a great friend and a sincere person. I met Craig on the railroad and knew then he was my kind of friend. He was good natured and always willing to help anybody. I enjoyed working on the trains with Craig because he knew what he was doing. When Craig retired we became even closer buddies. I enjoyed the days we had together. He enjoyed his music and we were even able to attend the ELO concert together with our other buddy Dennis. We had a great time there.
I will miss Craig immensely but I am very grateful for our time together. Rest In Peace My Friend. John DeBellis

I have so many happy memories of Uncle Craig. To us nieces and nephews, Uncle Craig was the fun uncle who entertained the mischievous side of our young personalities. And being a train conductor for Metro-North, our Uncle Craig had the coolest job a man could have. One of my favorite memories from early childhood is when Uncle Craig took all of us down to the city for the day, and on the train home he closed off a whole car for just us. He turned off the lights and let us have the run of the place. We played hide-and-seek all around the car; you could find us hiding in the overhead luggage racks, under the seats, wherever! He was always fostering such fun and rich experiences for his nieces and nephews. Thank you Uncle Craig for the special memory, and for so many others. I love you, and I’ll miss you always.

Craig was a lovely human being. He was a kind, low key, quiet kinda guy. But when called upon to be eloquent, he was. When called upon to be a devoted and compassionate son, he was. His friendship meant so much to so many people. He was a loyal friend. Memories of kilts in Scotland, hours around the kitchen table shooting the breeze, his wedding day. Our hearts are with Barbette , Craig's constant companion since high school. He fought the good fight, and is resting now.

My lifelong buddy Craig aka the stiff... I can’t.believe I’m writing on your memory wall. Even if I highlighted, not in detail, the memories we have over the last 43 years they would need a bigger wall. Your mild manner and your ability to always stay calm cool and collected whatever the situation may be was a trait matched by no one I have ever met in my 50 years.. My family and I cannot express or thank you and Barbette enough for your selflessness and Compassion and just always being there at the drop of a hat for all the years. Whether it was to take a ride somewhere with me for an hour or two or to watch the kids or let the dog out or sleep over so the Jet dog was not alone but most of all thanks for being you pal!! It’s been almost a week and i miss the heck out you already buddy.. Barb will be taken care of and hey give us a sign every once in a while somehow some way please.. Your pal Paul aka the stiff🙏🙏🙏
