Eleanor Joan Sharkey passed away on July 13th, surrounded by her loving family, in North Salem, NY at the age of 89. She was born in Redwood New York, to Gladys (Shaver) and Harry Gates. She attended Redwood High School but graduated from Kenmore High School in 1948.
In 1950 after graduating college in Kenmore, she moved to New Rochelle, New York. She worked as a dietitian in New Rochelle Hospital. She then met and married the love of her life, James F Sharkey on January 20, 1951.
They raised five children in New Rochelle until they moved to Peach Lake in North Salem, New York, where they had one more child. Eleanor was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, she was a true friend to all.
Through time she revealed her rare gift to all of us, a pure example of unconditional love. She was a gentle, kind and humble woman, and a true servant of Jesus Christ.
Her internal beauty and depth of understanding have provided a shelter for many in the past, as will her memory in years to come.
She is preceded in life by her husband James, and three sons, James, Daniel, & Timothy, and 2 Siblings Elizabeth & Roger Gates. She is survived by her loving children, Kathleen (Sharkey) Sant & Husband Dennis of Brewster NY, Susan (Sharkey) Diaz & husband Juan of Bowling Green, KY, and Edward Sharkey of North Salem NY. So very sorry for your loss, God promises us in his word the Bible that death will be no more, neither will pain nor sorrow, nor outcry be anymore. The former things have come to pass. God promise throughout his word that pain, death and sorrow will all be in the past. Let's look forward to God's promise at Revelations 21 verses 3 and 4.

So sorry to hear of Eleanor's passing. We were owners of Living Waters Christian Book Store and many a time she came in and I could feel the peace of Christ pouring out of her. Even in times of great sorrow in her life she never wavered in her faith. She often ministered to us and I could feel her love. We know she is now in the presence of Our Lord enjoying the embraces of her boys. All of you are in our prayers. Linda & Dominic Guadagnoli
