Geraldine Eva “Gerry” Corley of Brewster, NY, passed away peacefully after battling one too many illnesses on March 28, 2020 in Danbury, CT. She was 79 years old, but you did not hear that from us.
Born in Purdys, NY., on June 26, 1940, she was the youngest daughter of Lester Ward and Eva Wixom Ward Searles. Gerry was raised in Goldens Bridge, NY., and attended high school in Katonah, NY. She moved to Brewster, NY. in 1956 and married James F. “Jim” Corley on March 4, 1959. They were one week short of celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary when Jim passed away in 2009.
Gerry was a bright spot in many people’s lives. She was a selfless person that always thought of others before herself. Gerry loved to pull out all the stops when it came to decorating her home (and herself) for the holidays. Her picture window brought joy to many who drove past her house, and Gerry’s colorful earring collection was unmatched and always brought a smile to her family and friends.
Survived by a family that misses her dearly; partner Jerry Lloyd; stepfather Milton Searles; sister Carol Jolley Sommerfeld of Spokane, WA., daughters Carolyn Corley Arpaia and her husband Tony of Brewster, NY., Heidi Corley Barto and her husband Rick of Wingdale, NY., grandchildren Alexa Arpaia, Anthony Arpaia, Gillian Barto, Paige Barto; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Gerry was predeceased by her husband James F. Corley; brothers Rodney Ward and Seth Ward; sisters Fra Ward and Linda Jolley Veldink.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date and will be held at Beecher Funeral Home in Brewster, NY. Also with a date to be determined later, Gerry’s friends at Brewster’s VFW Post 672 will host a reception to mourn the loss of their friend and to celebrate her life. Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY assisted the family with arrangements
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gerry’s memory to the DaVita Celia Dill Dialysis Center in Carmel, NY. Their staff went above and beyond in caring for Gerry, and in providing support for her family.
