Obituary for Leonard D. "Danny" Melito

Leonard Daniel Melito, of North Salem, NY died peacefully with his family by his side on August 15, 2020. He was 86 years old.
Born on March 4, 1934 in New York City, NY, son of the late George and Isabella (Sapia) Melito. Danny honorably served in the US Army as an MP during the Cold War era. He was stationed at a base in Oklahoma where his main job was to guard the nuclear base.
On November 5, 1961 Danny married the love of his life Theresa Moschella in Bronx, NY. In 1976 they moved to North Salem to raise their family.
Danny was a manager with the NYC Off Track Betting (OTB) for 20 years before he retired. After retirement he was a security guard at a gated community in Mamaroneck. Mr. Melito had an infectious laugh; you could not help but laugh with him when he told his ‘dad’ jokes. He loved the NY Giants and was an avid sports fan. He was a collector of many things, stamps, baseball cards and coins. He was a great painter and enjoyed making all kinds of signs for his daughters and grandchildren. He had a special love for animals, particularly his granddogs. His greatest passion in life was his family, especially his grandchildren.
Mr. Melito is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Theresa, as well as his daughters; Phyllis Nevins and her husband John of New Fairfield, CT and Denise Melito and her significant other Greg Marino of Bedminster, NJ, his grandchildren; Jake, Dana, Sage and Samantha and his sister’s son, Alfred Foti and his many other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Theresa Foti in 1976. He will be greatly missed by many loving family and friends.
