Margaret A. Romano, known by many as Peggy, died at Danbury Hospital Center on April 10, 2020. She was 91 years old. Peggy was a lovely gentle woman who was kind to everyone. She will be missed, and we can all hold fabulous memories close.

Born on November 11, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of Cornelius and Judith Emma (Pineau) Shea. She graduated from Bay Ridge High School, class of 1947. Peggy was a supervisor with Chase Bank in NYC, NY for more than 10 years.
With the faith of God, and through mutual friends, Dominick J. Romano came into her life, and they were engaged on Easter Sunday. On August 17, 1957 they were married at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Brooklyn, NY beginning a wonderful life together.

Their first home was in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, NY, moving to Brewster in 1959. She was a stay-at-home Mom focused on their children and home. Peggy was a devoted Catholic and parishioner of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, was a life member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Bernadine #185, Brewster, NY, and the St Lawrence O’Toole School Mother’s Guild. Through the years every major holiday was an event shared with extended family throughout the tri-state area. Once their five children were grown, Peggy and Dom enjoyed monthly get-togethers with siblings and including many years of travelling the world.

Peggy is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years Dom, her 5 children: Paul Romano and Tracy Magram of Arlington, MA, John Romano of Danbury, CT, Tom & Karen Romano of Yarmouth, ME, Ann Germinaro of Brookfield, CT, and Mary & Tom Zoeller of Pawling, NY. Shortly before her death, through the marvel of modern technology and the cooperation of a dedicated ICU nursing staff at Danbury Hospital, she was able to be simultaneously connected both audibly and visually to her children, her ten grandchildren, and her two great grandchildren connecting six states from Maine to Florida. She is also survived by one brother William and his wife Eileen Shea of Mesa, Az. Peggy was predeceased by her siblings; Raymond (Br. Medard,CFX), John, Edward, Donald, Mary (Sr Maria de Lourdes), and, Fr. Peter Shea (CSP).

A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held at a later date with a Mass of Christian Burial taking place at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, Brewster, NY. A private burial will be held this Thursday, April 16th at St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery. Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster, NY assisted the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers please consider donations in Peggy’s memory to the “Life and Vocations Fund”, or, the “Msgr McCabe Scholarship Fund”, Knights of Columbus, P.O. Box 268, Brewster, NY, 10509.

Peggy always had a smile on her face. When I would tell a story or a joke I could always count on her to laugh. She would always participate in any activity I planned. She was very receptive to other's needs and was very kind. Her family was very important to her. Her husband came every day and the week he was not able to come was difficult for her. Her children sent her flowers ALL the time. I will miss her interaction in the groups and her continued optimism and her zeal for life.
