Maureen A. Dooner, a 43-year resident of Brewster, NY, died on Tuesday April 7, 2020 at Danbury Hospital Center. She was 76 years old.

Born on March 24, 1944 in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Denis J. and Margaret (Lynch) McHugh. Maureen was a graduate of Our Lady of Perpetual Help High School in Brooklyn, NY. She was truly a person from Brooklyn, even years later she still had her Brooklyn accent.

Maureen married the love of her life Richard J. Dooner on September 17, 1966 at St. Vincent Ferrer in Brooklyn, NY. They moved to Brewster to raise their family.

Maureen enjoyed many careers in her lifetime. Two of her greatest jobs were being a co-owner of Angelic Presents in Brewster, NY, and being a clerk at the Town of Southeast. She was an active parishioner of St. Lawrence O’Toole Church. Maureen was a kind and caring person. Her home and heart were always open, and her coffee pot was always full, as she listened and brought serenity, courage and wisdom to the many friends and family that found comfort in her words and presence.

Maureen is survived not only by her loving husband Rich but also her children; Richard (Jennifer) Dooner of Pleasant Valley, NY, Heather Fortuna of Bethel, CT, Scott (Andrea) Dooner of Brewster, NY, her 3 grandchildren; Kayla, Richard and Jacob and her siblings; Margaret Lloyd, Arlene Pehrrson, John McHugh and Mary DePouli. She was predeceased by her brothers Denis McHugh and E. Thomas McHugh.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, Brewster, NY on Thursday September 17, 2020 at 12pm. Interment will be private. Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Avenue, Brewster assisted the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers please consider donations in memory of Maureen to the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement, Inc.; P.O. Box 301; 40 Franciscan Way, Garrison, NY 10524.

My beautiful sister, confident and best friend, Mosey. You were the heart of our family always keeping in touch with your sisters and brothers. Your heart was the biggest of anyone I know and your gentle wisdom and guidance will be greatly missed. Such happy memories and funny stories of you will be cherished. One of your favorite sayings was "Expect a Miracle." Well Moe you got your miracle at the very end when your beloved daughter Heather got into the hospital ER without being stopped. You were not alone in your last moments and she was able to tell you how much you were loved as you peacefully left this earth. You are my hero and my beloved sister. How blessed am I to call you my sister. Always in my heart, Mary

Maureen, Maur, Mosey, sister, sweetheart, wife, Mother, Mom, Daughter, friend, councilor, confidant, Christian, servant, cancer survivor, courageous, selfless,
Humanitarian, humble prayer of prayers, constant contact with Christ.
Strong, weak, humble, celebrant of others success. Family organizer, friend to the suffering. Selfless while taking care of those in crisis. My sister Maur had the capacity
To take another’s burden and give loving care in return. Maur is the best example of how to live. Love without limit, pray without demanding outcome, daily turning her will and life over to her God. Heaven gave MAUREEN DOONER a standing ovation as she entered Heaven.
And all I have is my eternal thanks fo her example, love and understanding.
You are missed Maur, love ya, with respect and admiration your loving brother John.

Rich, Jen, Kayla, and Richie
