************************** Eulogy *****************************************

We gathered here to celebrate the life of Michael John. He was a man with many titles; Son, Brother, Uncle, Friend but his most important title to us four; was Husband and Dad. I know all of us here can agree on something, he could be a royal pain in the arse. Always up to devilment and pranks. Like his favorite Christmas musical tie and playing it in the middle of midnight mass when it was dead silent, to pranking us with a box of canned stewed tomatoes as a gift to the three of us or to the time he told my sisters and I that the mountain over yonder was called asal mór. He was always up for laughter and the good craic.
He was a hardworking man. He worked for 27 years as a bus driver for the MTA in New York City. Up in the morning at 4:30 and back home at 10 o’clock at night. He would come home telling us stories like the time he was a doctor, the strange characters that came aboard his bus, to even what he found on the bus that day. He rarely missed a day of work. He always wanted to provide for my mom, my sisters and I. He took pride with the maintenance of our home. The yard was always pristine; grass perfectly leveled, shrubs evenly trimmed, and flowers cut back when necessary. You can say he was Home Depot’s number one customer. He enjoyed the outdoor work around the house. He loved being out in nature, looking up at the stars and of course feeding his birds.
The most important thing to my Dad was family. Family was above everything else to him. He was caring and giving and wanted everyone around him to feel comfortable. He made sure that his family and friends had a full belly, a full glass and a great time. He always had the right words to say and always had a way to reassure you that everything would work out.
“The memories of his laughter, his warm and loving smile, his eyes so full of happiness, his heart that of a child. Memories are forever, be they laughter or of tears, memories we will treasure through all the coming years.”
On behalf of my mom, Geraldine, and my two sisters, Michelle and Jaclyn, I would like to thank each and every one of you for your loving support. This has been difficult few weeks for us. To be honest, it’s been a difficult few weeks for everyone who knew him. However, there was comfort for us listening to all the good times you shared with our father. His heart and soul was in Ireland and I am happy that he found peace and went back home to God from the land that he loved. It is going to be hard not to see his goofy smile or feel his warm hugs, but I know he will be looking down upon us and guiding us always. We love you Dad, may angels lead you in. We will be together again one day. Written By: Tara Keegan (daughter)
