Phil Canapini, of Putnam Lake, died peacefully with his family by his side on December 30, 2019. He was 97 years old.
Born in Sina Lunga, Italy, son of the late Sestillo and Maria (Burricio) Canapini. When he was in high school, he was drafted into the Italian Army. While serving he became a prisoner of war and was sent to the United States. Luck would have it being a POW allowed him to meet the love of his life Maria Terruli. Phil returned home to Italy only to come back to the US in 1946 to marry Maria on February 18, 1947. Phil was a devoted husband to Maria until her death on July 13, 1997.
Mr. Canapini was a cement mason with Joe Kelly Construction for many years before retiring in 1969. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church, an avid Yankee fan and a wonderful cook. Phil never missed an opportunity to be out and about with the Putnam Lake Seniors. One of his greatest passion was his garden.
Phil is survived by his only son; Raymond and his spouse of Sharon of Little River, SC, his two grandsons; Philip and his wife Joanne and Raymond and his wife Katie and his three great grandchildren; Pearl, Simon, Felix.
